Mary's Beauty Tips:

Long Hair Tips

*For the new trendy curls

Section the hair starting from the bottom working up in rows.

Curl the hair opposite directions it gives it a fun effect of bouncy curls than curling it all to the back of the head in the same direction.

You can choose what size iron you want to use or a flat iron curls

Smooth it a few inches and then start your curl

For a beach wave effect do a pin curl by wrapping the hair around your finger and then flat ironing the swirl you created (you could also go to you tube and search pincurl beach waves, that was where I learned it.)

Some people braid their hair in like 2 or more large sections and then curl or smooth the ends a bit in the morning.

Dry Scalp

Another hint I forgot to mention, is if you feel like you need to shampoo every day, you can always use a conditioner like a shampoo and rub your scalp with it and hair and it will take some of the dirt out without the cleansers to dry your scalp out.

If you are a die hard, I have to shampoo my hair everyday girl then alternate shampoos, and again use SULFATE FREE, read the label if is always right on the front of the product for you to read.

Oily Scalp

1. Also you can use baby powder, corn starch

2. You don't have to apply conditioner to the scalp, I recommend you do not if you have an oily scalp just apply part way down the hair shaft where it is dry, you will save money and have more volume.

3. An easy hair stripper is adding a drop of Dawn in your hand and then pour your shampoo into the palm of your hand, not too much dawn as it will dry your hair out.

FOR VOLUME AND TO CLEAN OUT OILY HAIR

I DID NOT MENTION THIS ONE. THIS IS A BIG MISTAKE MOST OF MY CLIENT FORGET TO DO, LATHER RINSE AND RELATHER, IF YOUR SCALP IS NOT SQUEEKY CLEAN WHEN YOU PULL THE HAIR THROUGH YOUR THUMB AND FINGER IT NEEDS TO BE RELATHERED. I HAVE LATHERED UP TO 4 TIMES BECAUSE OF THE RESIDUAL OILS THAT JUST BUILD UP. IF YOU STILL STRUGGLE USE A DROP OF DAWN DISHSOAP IN YOUR HAND AND THEN ADD YOUR SHAMPOO TO IT, YOU ARE GUARANTEED SQUEEKY HAIR.YOU CAN NOT PAINT ON A DIRTY CANVAS. SO HOW COULD YOU STYLE WITH HAIR THAT IS NOT SQUEEKY CLEAN, YOUR GEL

Products:

Blow Dry Spray:

It really does speed up blow drying time, I did not believe it and had it sitting on my station for probably a year. It comes in a pump and you will want to keep it away from your scalp so it does not make your scalp oily, it detangles and speeds up time, start with a little until you know how much your hair can handle if you have fine hair.

Dry Shampoo:

Apply it to dry hair and I usually will take my blow drier to it and blow it out especially if it leaves a white powder, if the brand does not do that then just rub it into your scalp to absorb the oils, or you can use baby powder or corn starch.

Thermal Styling Spray:

It will say on the bottle either thermal, heat protectant, or setting spray.

Apply it to dry hair section it out it gets sticky, then curl the hair and it will give you a firmer curl, try out different kinds until you find the kind you like. In a pinch you can use good old hair spray for a firmer curl, it worked for our bangs in the 80's very well.

Hair Loss and Hair Growth

1. Amanda recommended adding peppermint oil and Rosemary Mint essential oil to their shampoo and or conditioner

For Hair Loss: I recommend buying witch hazel at the dollar store and putting in 15 drops of Cypress oil and in a spray bottle, section your hair and spray the scalp, you can use like an empty hair spray or a spray bottle from the dollar store it also works as a nice skin spritzer if you spritz your face with it.

* For increased hair growth I would do 5 drops of the rosemarymint essential oil, 5 drops lavender and then the 5 drops of the cypress.

Teenage Acne: (driven by bacteria)

Corn starch:

During the day and evening, it is totally pure so it will not have anything that will irritate your skin, unless you are allergic to it. (Does not have the antibacerial affect that you will get from the diatomacious earth, but it absorbs the oil that contributes to bacteria and pimples and blackheads).

Diatomaceous Earth (has an antibacterial affect on your skin)

This powder can be used in the same way you use your corn starch, just powder it on with a cotton ball so you do not get cross contamination by putting it on your oily face and then redipping it, or pour part of the powder in your hand and add water to make a mask at night.

Other ideas:

Tea Tree Oil

If you have a pimple put that on it at night

Sulfer and Bentonite Powder:

Just like you would use the diatomaceous earth, sometimes you can buy it in masks.

also has antibactierial effects on the skin.
